ARCHIVED - Mazarron police catch a dozen people drinking during curfew
Another man attempted to run away on Sunday evening and collided with a lamp post
Although it’s hard to believe that some people are still going out of their way to deliberately flaunt the covid restrictions set in place to try and limit the spread of the covid virus, there are still regular reports of gatherings in both outdoor spaces and private houses and this weekend Mazarrón police were kept busy by a series of call-outs.
The worst incident was on Saturday evening on the fringes of the municipality when police were tipped-off that twelve people had driven to a secluded spot to drink alcohol in a 'botellón' gathering. When police arrived at 02:30 they found the cars gathered together and a party underway. All of those at the location will face sanctions for breaking the curfew and drinking alcohol in a public area.
On Sunday evening a man was seen in the streets at 01:30 in the morning, breaking the curfew. Seeing the agents he ran off, but was so busy worrying about whether he was being chased that he ran slap bang into a lamp-post, and sustained sufficient injuries to require hospital treatment.
Mazarrón police have also had a successful fine-athon over the weekend, fining for various infractions including not wearing a mask, crossing over into the Mazarrón municipality without adequate justification, consuming alcohol in the street and staying in parks and public gardens after 19:00.
There are currently 163 active cases in the municipality of Mazarrón, which increased by one on Sunday. On Saturday two of the fatalities reported in the region were from
Mazarrón.
