ARCHIVED - 10th January to 2nd February, Mar & Plásticos art exhibition to raise awareness of plastic contamination in San Pedro del Pinatar
Waste collected after the gota fría storm last September is recycled as art at the Museo Barón de Benifayó
An exhibition entitled “Mar & Plásticos, Artistas por el Mar Menor” is being held at the Museo Barón de Benifayó in San Pedro del Pinatar until Sunday 2nd February, featuring work by 50 artists which is intended to raise awareness of the need to avoid plastic contamination of the Mar Menor and the rest of the seas and oceans of the world.
The painters, sculptors, musicians, poets and others who have contributed to the exhibition all met at the mouth of the Rambla de El Beal in October to express their concern over the marine environment of the Mar Menor and to contribute to its recovery by collecting some of the waste which was washed into the lagoon by the flooding during the destructive gota fría storm of September. Many used some of the rubbish they collected to create the pieces on display in San Pedro, among them artists such as Sofía Tornero, Goyo, Petrus Borgia, Álvaro Peña and José María Garres.
