ARCHIVED - 30,000 speeding fines in 2019 were issued as a result of just 2 radar traps in Murcia
One camera in Valencia detected almost 60,000 offences!
Figures have been published this week regarding the number of speeding fines imposed as a result of the fixed radar speed traps installed by the DGT Spanish traffic authorities on roads all over the country, and once again two of those located in the Region of Murcia are among the 50 cameras responsible for most motorists having to pay up for their misdemeanours.
During 2019 a total of 2,933,089 speeding fines were issued, and although there are around a thousand cameras on the roads the top 50 were responsible for over 41 per cent of them. The busiest one of all was on the AP-7 motorway close to Sagunto in the province of Valencia, with over 59,000 offences detected (more than 160 per day), closely followed by others in the provinces of Huelva and Cuenca.
The most productive camera in the Region of Murcia is ranked 35th in the list and is located at kilometre 136 on the A-30 motorway, just to the north of the city of Murcia where the speed limit on the 3-lane road is reduced to 80 km/h. A total of 15,993 fines were levied last year as a result of excess speeds detected here.
To the surprise of many the trap on the RM-19 motorway leading to the Mar Menor is not featured this year, but a new entry at number 50 is another device at kilometre 13 of the RM-15, the motorway leading to Mula, Bullas and Caravaca de la Cruz in the north-west of the Region. This camera is on a downhill stretch of the road where the limit is 100km/h, and in 2019 the number of fines it brought about shot up from 5,282 in 2018 to 13,583.
