ARCHIVED - 537 deaths and 12,228 new cases; Spain Covid-19 Tuesday November 24th
This is the highest number of fatalities recorded in a single day since the second wave began
The Spanish Ministry of Health has notified 12,228 new coronavirus infections this Tuesday, 4,584 diagnosed within the last 24 hours, and the remainder added to the overall total after being verified from amongst the cases reported by the regional health authorities.
The 17 health services of the autonomous regions report their daily totals to the national ministry, but it takes time for all of the figures to be checked, so cases are not always included in the daily stats published by the Ministry on the same day as they are reported, but are sometimes added into the daily totals on a different date after they have been verified and checked.
These figures do not appear in the daily total, but are added to the overall total, which is the larger figure quoted by the Ministry in these figures.
Although these figures are still high, the daily totals of new cases are slowly falling as the restrictions across Spain slow down the spread of the virus. These latest additions bring the global total number of cases to 1,594,844.
However, the 537 deaths reported in the last 24 hours marks a new maximum total for a single day since the second wave began, bringing the global death toll to 43,668.
The cumulative incidence continues to decline and is now 362.35 cases per 100,000 inhabitants across the last 14 days.
There are currently 16,701 patients admitted for COVID-19 to hospitals throughout Spain and 2,853 in an ICU, although in the last 24 hours there have been 1,461 admissions and 2,092 discharges.
During the last week 3,551 people have been admitted to a hospital with coronavirus and 286 to an ICU. The occupancy rate for beds occupied by coronavirus currently stands at 13.43 percent and in ICUs at 29.06 percent.
