60kmh winds forecast for Murcia this Wednesday and Thursday
Storm Leonardo is lashing other parts of southern Spain with heavy rain which has caused flooding
Murcia weather warning, Wednesday February 4
The Region of Murcia is subject to weather warnings issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) this Wednesday February 4 and Thursday 5 for strong winds brought by Storm Leonardo.
On Wednesday, it is just the coastal part of Cartagena and the Mar Menor which is under yellow alert between 3am and 2pm for wind speeds that could reach, on occasion, up to 50-60kmh and create waves of up to 3 metres high.
The rain is accompanied by showery rains, but the weather alerts are only due to the high winds.

However, for Thursday most of the Region is under a weather warning, with the exception of the northeastern and central inland parts around Murcia capital, Yecla and Jumilla.
All other land areas of Murcia will be subject to yellow weather warnings between 6am and 6pm for strong winds that could bring sudden gusts of up to 70kmh. The coast, meanwhile, is on orange alert for gale force 8 winds and waves of 4-5 metres high.
For now, Aemet has not issued any weather alerts for Murcia on Friday.
The worst hit part of southern Spain will actually be Andalucía, where there are red alerts active for this Wednesday and state schools have been closed in seven out of the eight regional provinces, with the only exception being Murcia’s neighbouring province of Almería.
As always when there are strong coastal winds in Spain, authorities recommend staying away from the seaside to avoid being washed away by sudden swells, and to exercise caution when walking or driving out of doors.
