The Casa del Labrador was built to house those working in the vineyards of the Sierra del Carche near Jumilla in approximately 1800, and has now been converted into attractive accommodation for those touring the Wine Route of the municipality or simply enjoying the beautiful countryside.
The conversion has been a meticulous one, and the building is now a mix of the traditional and the modern, with old-fashioned decorative detail but all mod cons throughout. Each of the 4 bedrooms has its own en suite bathroom (one is adapted for guests of limited mobility, while another also features a jacuzzi), and they share a large and fully-equipped kitchen and a very comfortable lounge/living area.
But if the interior is attractive, it is no more than in keeping with the setting. Surrounded by vineyards, the Casa del Labrador enjoys spectacular views out towards the Sierra del Carche (which with a peak at 1,372 metres above sea level is higher than Ben Nevis), and visitors all year round cannot help but admire the majesty of the scenery.
Apart from visiting the nearby wineries (the Casa del Labrador is extremely close to the bodega of Casa del Ermita, one of those included in the Jumilla Wine Route, to which Casa del Labrador is affiliated), other attractions in the vicinity include walking and cycling tours, and there is even the opportunity to contract a hot air balloon ride! There is also a craft beer brewery located within the vineyards, and the accommodation itself features a pool table and barbecue.
How to find Casa del Labrador
The easiest route to the Casa del Labrador involves reaching the southern outskirts of Jumilla, on the N-344 road which leads into the town from the A-33 motorway. Where the N-344 begins to loop to the west around the town centre, head straight on instead, and then almost immediately take a right turn on the MU-15-A road, which is signposted “El Carche 6”.
