ARCHIVED - Active Covid cases in Murcia drop to lowest level since last July: Covid update June 14
The Costa Cálida enters “low risk” territory for the first time in 11 months
After a period in late May when the number of active cases of Covid-149 in the Region of Murcia threatened to rise significantly again, the latest data published on Monday 14th by the regional government confirm that the trend has been reversed and that infection is being contained, with the number of known active cases falling to its lowest level since July 2020.
Monday’s bulletin reports a further 17 confirmed cases of coronavirus on Sunday, 7 of them in the municipality of Murcia along with 2 in Cartagena and one each in Alcantarilla, Alhama de Murcia, Campos del Río, Cehegín, Cieza, Ricote, Las Torres de Cotillas and Totana. The positive results were returned from a total of 912 PCR tests, giving a positivity rate of 1.8 per cent.
The number of Covid patients receiving hospital treatment now stands at 31, having dropped from 44 over the last seven days, and in the same period the number in intensive care units has fallen from 18 to 11.
Perhaps most importantly, as the immunization campaign continues to progress rapidly, the number of known active cases in the Region has dropped back to below 494 for the first time since July last year, when Spain was still emerging from its first strict pandemic lockdown. Similarly, the 14-day incidence rate is now below the threshold of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and as a result the risk of infection is considered “low”, again for the first time since last July.
At that time, the decrease in infection could be attributed to the restrictions on socializing and travel during the spring, but this time the administration of vaccines has also contributed to the improvement as Spain prepares for the summer.
Latest data as reported on Monday 14th June 2021:
New cases reported in the last 24 hours: 17
Confirmed cases since the outbreak of the pandemic: 113,697
Active cases: 494
Patients in home isolation with mild symptoms: 463
Hospital patients: 31
Patients in ICU: 11
Total cured: 111,598
Total deaths: 1,605
Vaccination in the Region of Murcia as per the Ministry of Health update 7th June:
People with at least one vaccine dose: 631,494 (41.8% of the population)
People fully vaccinated: 370,368 (24.5% of the population)
