Another hot week is on the way across Spain, with temperatures remaining firmly in summer territory and some areas once again approaching 40°C. But this week has something rather more exciting in store too, as Wednesday's historic total solar eclipse approaches. Here's how the weather is shaping up across the country from Monday to Thursday, including what to expect as the big day arrives.

 

We're starting the week with plenty of sunshine and another dose of summer heat. Temperatures will reach the high 30s across large parts of Spain, with the hottest conditions expected inland and in the south. Coastal areas should be a little more comfortable, although it will still be hot enough to make the shade and air conditioning very appealing. Nights will offer only limited relief, particularly in urban areas.

 

Very little change on Tuesday, with another day of blazing sunshine and temperatures around the high 30s in many parts of the country. The heat will be particularly noticeable inland, while coastal areas benefit from sea breezes. With another warm night expected, it's worth keeping homes shaded during the day and making sure you're drinking plenty of water.

 

And then we get to the big one. Eclipse day is currently looking promising from a weather point of view, with plenty of sunshine forecast across much of Spain and temperatures reaching around 39°C in the hottest areas. The evening should remain warm as people head outside to watch the Moon pass across the Sun.

 

For anyone planning to watch the eclipse, cloud cover will be the thing to keep an eye on as the day approaches, particularly if you're travelling to a specific viewing location. AEMET is providing dedicated updates for the eclipse as the forecast becomes more precise.

 

After all the excitement of eclipse day, the heat isn't going anywhere. Thursday could actually be the hottest day of the four, with temperatures reaching 40°C or above in parts of Spain. Expect more sunshine and very warm conditions, with the usual warnings about dehydration and heat exposure, particularly during the hottest part of the afternoon.
