Brit tourist beats up Mallorca waitress after mistaking her for 'hugger mugger'
The drunk holidaymaker told Platja de Palma police he had been robbed earlier in the day
A shocking incident of mistaken identity has left a Nigerian waitress shaken and a British tourist facing serious assault charges in Mallorca.
The drama unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday morning, September 24, when a drunken tourist stormed into a fast food establishment on Platja de Palma, hell-bent on revenge against a woman he believed had stolen 300 euros from him in an earlier ‘hugger mugger’ robbery.
However, as it turns out, the tourist targeted the wrong woman - a 44-year-old waitress who had simply been going about her job. The intoxicated Briton, fuelled by anger and booze, launched a vicious attack on the innocent woman, punching her repeatedly and leaving her with a swollen and red face.
The manager of the establishment, a 25-year-old Spaniard, recounted the terrifying scene to police, describing how the tourist had burst into the premises in a state of agitation, without warning, and began pummelling the waitress. The tourist then proceeded to smash a methacrylate screen with his fists, causing significant damage to the property.
Police quickly responded to the scene, and upon investigation, discovered that the tourist's accusations were entirely unfounded. The waitress had done nothing to provoke the attack, and the tourist's claims of theft were based on a mistaken identification.
The holidaymaker, a 32-year-old British man, later confessed to police that he had been walking down the street when a woman of African descent had allegedly groped him and stolen 300 euros from his wallet. Believing the waitress to be the perpetrator, he had chased her into the establishment, only to realise too late that he had made a grave mistake.
The incident has left the waitress shaken, and the tourist facing serious consequences for his actions. The police have prepared a judicial report, and all parties involved have been informed of their options for pursuing the matter further.
