ARCHIVED - Bus routes to Cartagena beaches and La Manga halved for this summer
The council is to spend around 28,000 euros on a tourism promotion campaign on buses in the national Alsa network
Alsa, the urban transport service concessionary for the Cartagena municipality, has announced that summer services will begin from July 1st, but will be reduced by 50% compared to the summer of 2019.
Alsa runs the routes most used by both tourists and indeed residents of the Cartagena municipality including the routes to Portús beach, the urban beach of Cala Cortina and the principl route along the length of La Manga del Mar Menor and to Cartagena City, used by those holidaying on “the strip/sleeve” who do not have a hire car and want to visit the tourist attractions in the city itself , or shop.
Hourly services will run from Cartagena bus station to La Manga from six-thirty in the morning until half past eleven at night, although at the start of the season the routes will only run every two hours.
The same applies to the return buses running from El Pedruchillo to Cartagena, which begin at seven thirty in the morning, with the sme frequency.
The service will be reviewed and “adjusted according to demand” the company explained.
Cartagena spends 28,000 promoting tourism on the side of Alsa buses.
The Mayoress of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has also signed an agreement with the Alsa concessionary which aims to give greater visibility to the municipality of Cartagena "as a safe and first-class tourist destination".
The transport company will display images of Cartagena on 45 buses throughout the national network and will recommend the municipality as a tourist destination on its web products and social media, the advertising contribution being “around 28,000 euros”.
