The Guardian ranked several beaches in Spain among the most impressive in Europe
Many aspects of Spanish life set it apart from other countries, such as its unique cuisine and world-famous fiestas, but the picture which most often springs to mind when one thinks of Spain is its expanse of golden beaches. It’s no surprise then that a recent article published by The Guardian newspaper in the UK highlighted several sandy Spanish stretches as some of the ‘40 best beaches in Europe’, and Murcia’s own Calblanque beaches in the municipality of Cartagena were given pride of place on the list.Other coastal destinations such as Ses Illetes in Formentera, Torimbia in Asturias, Carnota in Galicia, Cala Trebaluger in Menorca and Sopelana in the Basque Country also got a mention, but the outlet considers the virgin beaches of Calblanque to be “a world away,” despite the fact that these picturesque sandy stretches are situated close “to the overdeveloped La Manga” and “the polluted Mar Menor.”The top 40 list describes in great detail the rugged paths leading to the area’s sandy beaches and coves, “each wilder than the last,” and suggests a trip to Playa Larga for those keen on surfing, Playa Parreño for visitors who enjoy a busier beach and the remote Playa Negrete for tourists looking for some peace and tranquillity. The Guardian also points out that the Murcia beaches are the ideal destination for wildlife enthusiasts as the beaches are teeming with sea turtles, badgers, foxes and flamingos. You might also like: The Times 8 best beaches in Spain 2022Images: Archive
