ARCHIVED - Covid hospital numbers drop over the weekend in Murcia region to below 500
The number of active cases has fallen below 10,000 for the first time in a month this weekend
On Sunday the total numbers of patients hospitalised with Covid-19 in the Region of Murcia dropped below the 500 mark for the first time since October 26th, falling to 473, with a slight fall in intensive totals to 103, relieving some of the pressure on the regional health service.
Over the weekend the numbers of new cases reported has been a lot lower than in previous weeks, helping to stabilise the situation in the Region and continuing the downward trend observed throughout this week.
On Friday 16th October the Murcia Region had 27,381 cases. On Friday 23rd October the reported figure was 31,378, on Friday 30th this figure had risen to 36,601, by Friday 6th November the total had reached 42,088 and last Friday the total climbed to 47,948.
This week the figure has reached 50,862, which is an increase of only 2,914 new cases, compared to 5.487 last week, so marks a significant reduction in the number of new cases.
New cases Saturday; 391 cases: 88 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 47 to Cartagena, 22 to Lorca, 17 to Molina de Segura, 17 to Torre Pacheco, 14 to Totana, 13 to Mazarrón, 13 to Yecla, 12 to Caravaca, 11 to Jumilla, 11 to Puerto Lumbreras, 11 to San Javier, 10 to Los Alcázares, 10 to Cieza, nine to Águilas, eight to Alcantarilla, eight to Las Torres de Cotillas, eight to La Unión, six to Alhama de Murcia, five to Archena, five to Blanca and five to Mula.
New cases Sunday; Cases 273
45 correspond to the municipality of Totana, 43 to Murcia, 30 to Lorca, 28 to Cartagena, 20 to Yecla, 13 to Alhama de Murcia, 12 to Caravaca de la Cruz, 11 to Jumilla, 11 to Mazarrón , 9 to Torre Pacheco, and 6 to Alcantarilla.
PCR tests: Although the number of PCR tests taken this week have been lower than last week, the most important information to come out of this is that the percentage of positives had fallen to 5.6% by Friday. Last week the rate was averaging around 15%, which means that three times the number of cases would have been diagnosed from the same number of tests as have been detected this week. This shows that the percentage of the population who are positive is falling, good news, as it decreases the chance of casually contracting covid through contact.
Fatalities;
Unfortunately, this figure has continued to rise and reached 473 on Sunday.
Saturday: 12 fatalities, one aged 41, with five women and seven men, ranging in age from 41 to 89. Three of the victims come from Murcia, two from Villanueva del Río Segura and the rest from Caravaca de la Cruz, Cartagena, San Javier, Molina de Segura, Ceutí, Fortuna and Yecla
Sunday: Fatalities7: These are 6 men and one woman aged 74, 74, 74, 82, 83, 85 and 89 years old, three from Murcia and the rest from Cehegín, San Javier, Lorca and Totana.
Active cases;
More people recovered from the virus over the weekend, than new cases were reported, the combination of which brought the total number of active cases down to below 10,000 for the first time in a month; it was October 23rd last time the region had less than 10, 000 active cases.
Today that figure stands at 9,743, of which 473 are hospitalised with more serious cases and 9,270 are in home isolation with milder cases.
This brings the total number of cases diagnosed since the beginning of the pandemic to 51,666 and the total number of recoveries to 39,665.
Hopefully the figures will continue to show stabilisation throughout this week.
