ARCHIVED - Eighty top Spanish chefs sign up for Alicante Gastronomic Fair September 24 to 27
80 Michelin star and Repsol sun chefs will showcase their culinary talents in Alicante on the Costa Blanca.
More than 250 exhibitors - including 30 Michelin star and 50 Repsol sun chefs - will take part in the 3rd Alicante Gastronomic fair, considered the largest 'experiential' event of its kind open to the public in Spain.
The fair, entitled 'Mediterranean Lifestyle', was cancelled last year due to the Covid pandemic, and postponed until September, when some of the country's top and aspiring chefs will descend on the Auditorium of the Provincial Council (ADDA), to showcase and share their culinary skills in "full compliance with health and safety regulations".
To overcome capacity restrictions, which may or may not still be in place, the exhibition space has been doubled from 15,000 to 32,000 square metres, with two additional pavilions at the Institución Ferial Alicantina (IFA) in Elche.
At both venues, a total of 250 exhibitors will stage presentations, workshops, demonstrations and tastings, opening with the 14th Championship of Spain Tortilla de Patatas.
"This is a purely experiential fair aimed at not only bringing the public closer to haute cuisine, but also to the producers, their products and the Mediterranean hospitality and lifestyle in general," explains Alicante Gastronomica organiser, Carlos Baño.
Meanwhile, president of Alicante Provincial Council, Carlos Mazón, stressed the importance of supporting the hard-hit hospitality sector, more so now than ever before, "as it needs to regain a form of normality as soon as possible and overcome the current restrictions".
