ARCHIVED - Fire rages through fruit factory in Torre Pacheco
Firefighters from across Murcia struggled to contain the fire for several hours
A large fire broke out at a fruit factory in Torre Pacheco on Tuesday afternoon, October 19, and firefighters from across the Region of Murcia were called to extinguish the out-of-control blaze.
The emergency services began receiving calls from 5.46pm alerting them to a fire at a fruit factory on Carretera del Jimenado with witnesses stating that the roof of the warehouse was on fire and that there were several vehicles inside the building.
Initially 11 firefighters from the Consortium of Fire Extinction and Rescue in the Region of Murcia (Mar Menor park and San Pedro park) were dispatched along with officers from the Guardia Civil, but reinforcements were needed from firefighting parks in Molina de Segura, Lorca, Alhama/Totana and Cartagena as well as Civil Protection officers from Torre Pacheco.

Due to the proximity of the factory to the train tracks, ADIF (the railway infrastructure administrator) was also informed of the fire.
The fire quickly spread to all of the adjacent buildings and the emergency services fought against the flames all afternoon and well into the evening, with the 112 Emergency services reporting that firefighters were still at the scene at 10.30pm, though fortunately no one was reported injured.
