ARCHIVED - Fortuna seismic risk plan remains active after another earthquake
Another minor earthquake was registered in Fortuna, Murcia, this Wednesday
Following a series of earthquakes two weeks ago, the municipality of Fortuna was forced to activate their seismic risk plan and, after yet another tremor on Wednesday October 27, the plan has been extended.
The latest earthquake took place at 9.48am and registered at 2.0 on the Richter magnitude scale. The Mayor of Fortuna reported that Wednesday’s earthquake was not felt by the population, which could be due to the fact that the tremor’s epicentre was located at a depth of around 11 kilometres under Sierra del Pila.
These recent episodes of seismic activity originated in the Crevillente fault, which lies under several Murcia municipalities, including Alhama de Murcia and Fortuna, and reaches the neighbouring province of Alicante.
At the moment, Fortuna will remain at pre-emergency status and the authorities are forming a strategy adhered to the Sismimur plan (Special Civil Protection Plan against Seismic Risk in the Region), which establishes a series of protocols to be carried out in the event of an earthquake of a significant magnitude.
