Heatwave continues with storms brewing inland: Spain weekly weather forecast July 6-9
Intense heat persists across the Spanish peninsula with thunderstorms possible in central areas and some relief on the way by Thursday
Last week's Iberian oven shows no sign of cooling down just yet. Temperatures remain well above 40°C across the major inland valleys, and while there are hints of change later in the week, most of Spain faces another gruelling few days of heat and hazy skies.Monday July 6
Spanish temperatures, Monday July 6Clear skies across most of the country, with thunderstorms expected to develop inland during the afternoon, particularly across the southern plateau and parts of Extremadura. Some could be dry, with very strong gusts. Temperatures are broadly unchanged, though the major river valleys again push into the 39-41°C range, and minimums stay stubbornly high overnight in southern and Mediterranean areas. In the Canary Islands, it's partly cloudy in the north of the more mountainous islands with some haze, and mostly clear in the east and south.
Tuesday July 7
Spanish weather warnings, Tuesday July 7The heat pushes further, with 40-42°C possible across the large inland valleys and along parts of the eastern coast. An influx of cold air aloft brings some instability, and cloud builds inland during the afternoon, with thunderstorms likely in central areas and the mountains, potentially with very strong gusts. Winds are mostly light across the peninsula, with sea breezes along the Mediterranean keeping things marginally more bearable on the coast. The Canary Islands see cloudy intervals on the northern slopes of the western islands, with clearer skies further east.
Wednesday July 8
Spanish temperatures, Wednesday July 8This could be the last day of the full heatwave, though temperatures remain very high across much of the east and south, still touching 40-42°C in the main valleys. Skies are mostly clear, but showers and thunderstorms with strong gusts are possible across the eastern half of the country during the afternoon. The north sees a more noticeable dip, while the Canary Islands remain warm with light haze and mostly settled conditions.
Thursday July 9
Spanish temperatures, Thursday July 9Cold air pushing in aloft brings more unsettled conditions to inland areas and the northeast, with cloud and locally heavy thunderstorms possible there. Elsewhere it stays largely stable and sunny. Temperatures ease in the southwest but remain above 36-38°C across most of the peninsula, with the main valleys still touching 38-40°C. Winds are generally light southerly across the interior, and the Canary Islands see a slight drop in temperatures.
The heatwave may be edging towards its conclusion, but it's going out slowly, and for much of Spain it'll still feel like a furnace through Thursday.
