ARCHIVED - Heavy rain warning for Mazarrón and the Campo de Cartagena
Red, orange and yellow weather alerts abound for Monday
The Campo de Cartagena broadly encompasses the areas surrounding the Mar Menor, including Cartagena, Torre Pacheco, Los Alcázares, San Pedro del Pinatar and San Javier.
Exactly as forecast, storm Gloria is making her presence felt as she sweeps across the peninsular, and although the Murcia Region is avoiding much of the bad weather she brings, heavy rains are likely to fall in the flatter coastal areas, turning to snow in the north and north-west.
The Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón in particular can expect as much as 60 litres per square meter (60mm) between Sunday afternoon and Monday lunchtime, as well as strong winds.
On Monday 20th January the alerts issued by Aemet are the following:
Northern Murcia (Yecla and Jumilla)
Red alert for the possibility of 20 centimetres of snow at altitudes of 700 metres and above.
Orange alert for winds of 90 km/h.
North-west Murcia (Caravaca, Moratalla, Calasparra, Bullas, northern Lorca)
Orange alert for the possibility of 10 centimetres of snow at altitudes of 500 metres and above.
Yellow alert for winds of up to 70 km/h.
Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón
Orange alert for winds of 90 km/h.
Orange alert for Force 8 gales on the coast and waves of up to 4 metres.
Yellow alert for up to 60 millimetres of rain.
Lorca, Agúilas and Puerto Lumbreras
Yellow alert for up to 6 cm of snow at altitudes of over 500 metres.
Yellow alert for winds of up to 70 km/h.
Orange alert for Force 8 gales on the coast and waves of up to 4 metres.
Central Murcia
Yellow alert for winds of up to 70 km/h (ending at 10.00).
As normal, Emergency Services advise against making unnecessary journeys and advise caution due to the weather conditions.
