ARCHIVED - Impossible to respond to emergencies: only 1 firefighter on duty in Mazarron
In the past week alone, there has been a reduction of 30% in the number of firefighters on duty in Mazarrón
There has been a 30% reduction in the number of firefighters on duty in Mazarrón this week, and the situation is getting worse every day. Today, Wednesday May 11, only one person is on duty, making it virtually impossible to respond to calls of any medium-sized emergency and leaving the town and its surrounding areas, including Camposol and Bolnuevo, in serious danger.
The Mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, has sent a strongly worded letter to the Manager of the Consortium of Fire Fighting and Rescue of the Region of Murcia to complain about the lamentable decrease in the number of firefighters in the municipality and to highlight the serious risk it entails for Mazarrón residents.
“Our safety is being jeopardised by this serious situation,” reads the letter, which goes on to “demand that the necessary measures are taken urgently so that today the Mazarrón Fire Station has the necessary staff to allow it to act to protect people and property affected by an accident.”
Such is his ire over the situation, Mayor Miras has also promised to bring a motion to the next plenary session of the Town Council to demand a solution to this situation of neglect by the Autonomous Community and the Regional Government in Murcia.
