ARCHIVED - In spite of improving situation Galicia imposes further internal border confinements
Galicia and Valencia have the lowest accumulated incidence rate in the country with 295 cases per 100,000 of population over 14 days, but are still imposing further restrictions as a precautionary measure.
Across Spain, regional governments continue to impose new measures in an attempt to bring the spread of coronavirus under control.
Galicia is one of only three mainland regions which has opted to leave its external borders open, and is instead focusing on confining municipalities in which the level of covid is highest. On Wednesday the clinical committee has decided that Sanxenxo (Pontevedra) should join the group of the other 67 Galician municipalities in which the severest restrictions have been imposed, and has added a joint perimeter closure with O Grove for this coastal town, which includes measures such as the closure of the hospitality sector altogether as well as prohibiting entry or exit of the towns. These restrictions will be published this Wednesday in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG) and will come into effect at midnight on Thursday.
Galicia has notified 501 positives for coronavirus in 24 hours, which implies an increase of almost a hundred cases compared to the 409 detected a day ago. However, active cases decreased slightly --9 less than the previous day - and stood at 9,051.
The updated data on Wednesday on the website of the Department of Health includes figures up to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and details that the highest number of new infections has occurred in the health area of A Coruña with 122 new infections --59 more than the previous day.
Vigo is the second health area that has registered the most positives by PCR in the last 24 hours, with 108 --11 more than the previous day. On the other hand, in Pontevedra and O Salnés 88 --21 more - have been detected; 69 in Lugo --14 more--; 60 in Santiago and Barbanza --19--, 33 in Ourense --7 more-- and 21 in Ferrol --18 less--.
The number of active cases of coronavirus in Galicia is 9,051. 106 patients are in an ICU unit, 503 are hospitalised, 8,451 in domestic isolation. There are a total of 36,070 people cured, and 1,086 deceased.
