For the last 50 years the network of British schools which make up King’s College have been providing world-class opportunities for children in Spain and other countries, helping various of them to go on to study at the best British, Spanish, European and North American universities.

Past students have completed degree courses at Oxford, Cambridge, Yale, Harvard, the London School of Economics, Manchester and St Andrews, learning along the way that getting a good degree from a top university and being bilingual in two of the world’s most important languages opens up a huge range of career and other opportunities.

All King’s College schools, including the three in the Costa Cálida and the Costa Blanca, provide a very British education. Classes are taught in English and offer child-centred, exploratory learning: in other words, we encourage your child to think, to question and to explore new ideas.

All learning at King’s College is based upon these core skills rather than simply a list of memorised facts. Of course, no promises can be made that your child will go on to a top university, but your son or daughter will be given the best possible chance to reach their full potential. Each child is treated as an individual as every effort is made to give them the best start in their life.

The success of the King’s College British Schools is based on consistently excellent academic results. Last year the school in Madrid achieved a pass rate for A levels of 97 per cent, most of the pupils receiving A or B grades, while nearly 98 per cent passed AS Levels and 93.5 per cent passed in the IGCSEs.

Of the 164 offers received from universities ranked in the top 50 in the UK, 81 offers were from universities ranked in the top 20 and 38 from universities in the top 10.

In short, the aim at the King’s College British Schools in Spain is not merely to ensure that pupils are fully bilingual in English and Spanish. It is also to create open-minded, creative and dynamic individuals, helping children to learn from first-hand experiences as well as textbooks and encouraging them to be creative in their thinking as well as working hard every day.

Education at the King’s College British Schools is divided into six stages:

Ages 2 – 5 (Pre-Nursery to Reception): Play to Learn

Young children learn through exploration. At this age everything they do, from kicking a ball, building with blocks and painting, to singing, is done in English as they learn to understand their environment. Sometimes it gets messy, but it’s always rewarding and develops them socially, mentally and physically!

Ages 5 – 7 (School years 1 – 2): Exploration and evaluation

A more structured approach to the day as children start learning how to read, write and count in English. Children to explore and play, but they are able to describe their discoveries in words and numbers.

Ages 7 – 11 (School years 3 – 6): Communicate and articulate!

Children are naturally curious and in Junior School we encourage them to learn about things that interest them while consolidating their numeracy and literacy. They apply these basic skills to other subject areas such as Science, Art and History.

Ages 11 – 16 (School years 7 – 11): Interrogate and debate

As children grow they think more critically, learning how to investigate, test and think rationally. Classes are more focused on formal subject-based learning as they prepare to take 9 or 10 IGCSE exams at the end of this stage.

Ages 16 – 18 (School years 12 – 13): Think and act

The final two years at school mark the beginning of adulthood. Pupils make choices and work hard during these years that prepare them for university and/or the start of their careers. Once pupils have finished their IGCSEs they choose three or four A Level exams, qualifications which are accepted by universities around the world.

Age 18+ (University and beyond)

Nearly all King’s pupils go on to university, mostly in the UK and Spain. Academic success helps guarantee a good career but we also want children who have been to King’s College to become good parents, partners and friends.
