ARCHIVED - Large firearms stash found in hidden basement in Bullas
The owner is suspected of manipulating weapons to make inoperative firearms usable
A man has been arrested by the Guardia Civil in Bullas after he was found to have created a hidden basement in his home and used it to store a large quantity of firearms and explosive devices.
Access to the basement was through a staircase under the floor of another storage area and the floor could be lifted to provide access only by means of a hidden switch. Downstairs, the officers investigating the property found not only the collection of weapons but also a work bench on which it is thought the owner was manipulating old and disabled firearms to make them usable.
Among the explosives confiscated were two mortar shells and two hand grenades which had to be dactivated by the Gedex division of the Guardia Civil, while the haul of firearms came to five rifles, nine shotguns, nine pistols, one carbine, four revolvers and various spare barrels and ammunition. In addition, the presence of precision tools and screwdrivers adds weight to the theory that weapons were being manipulated.
Some of the firearms are classified as weapons of war and may have previously belonged to the Spanish armed forces: this is being investigated further while the case has been placed in the hands of the courts of Mula.
