Living costs rise sharply in Murcia as transport prices climb 7.7%
Prices rose 0.7 percentage points in July as transport costs jumped 7.7% compared with the same month last year

The cost of living in the Region of Murcia has risen sharply, with inflation reaching 3.7% in July compared with the same month last year.
The latest figures from Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE) show that prices increased by 0.7 percentage points compared with June, marking the second consecutive month of rising prices in the Region.
Prices also went up by 0.4% during July alone, while the overall increase since the start of the year has reached 2.6%.
The biggest jump came in transport, where prices were 7.7% higher than in July 2025.
That represents a significant increase from June, when the year-on-year rise in transport costs was 5.7%.
The other major increases came in restaurants and accommodation, where prices were 5.3% higher than a year earlier.
Housing, water, electricity, gas and other household fuels were also up 3.9%, while alcoholic drinks and tobacco increased by 3.4%.
Not everything has become more expensive at the same rate.
Prices for food and non-alcoholic drinks rose by 1.5% compared with July last year, while furniture and household goods increased by 1.1%.
Recreation, sport and culture saw a 2% increase, while information and communications rose by 2.1%.
The latest figures put Murcia's inflation rate slightly above the Spanish average of 3.6%.
Nationally, prices rose by 0.3% during July, pushing the annual inflation rate up by 0.4 percentage points.
Murcia isn't the most expensive region when it comes to inflation, however. Cantabria recorded the highest rate at 4.3%, followed by Galicia at 4.1% and the Balearic Islands at 3.9%.
At the other end of the scale, Extremadura recorded an annual rate of 3%, followed by Asturias at 3.1% and La Rioja at 3.2%.
