ARCHIVED - Madrid adjusts restrictions as covid situation improves a little
Case numbers have dropped significantly in the region since the confinements were imposed
The latest review of the situation regarding the coronavirus pandemic in the region of Madrid has resulted in a relaxation of the restrictions on movements within 10 “basic health areas”, reflecting a significant overall improvement in the incidence rates in and around the Spanish capital over recent weeks.
The 10 areas which are henceforth excluded from the restrictions all show a decrease of at least 50 per cent in the 14-day incidence rate and a significant downward curve in the transmission of Covid. The zones concerned are those of Brújula (in the municipality of Torrejón de Ardoz), El Espinillo (in the district of Villaverde), Guadarrama, Las Fronteras (Torrejón de Ardoz), Peña Prieta (Puente de Vallecas), Rafael Alberti (Puente de Vallecas), San Andrés (Madrid-Villaverde), San Blas (Parla), San Cristóbal (Madrid – Villaverde) and Vinateros-Torito (Moratalaz).
The restrictions on movement are to be maintained in another 22 health areas, but the latest data do not make it necessary to add any more areas to the list of those where people are confined to their homes as no new instances of 14-day incidence rate of over 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants have been reported.
Antonio Zapatero of the regional government reports that the daily figure for new cases is now only a third of the figure reached at its peak seven weeks ago, and has improved by 23 per cent over the last fortnight.
The 14-day incidence rate in the region of Madrid currently stands at 328, lower than in any other region except those of Valencia, Galicia and the Balearic and Canary Islands, while in the Region of Murcia, by comparison, the latest figure is 741.
