Two exhibitions will run side by side in Lorca throughout Holy Week
In honour of
Easter Week, the Brotherhoods of Lorca are displaying their finest ecclesiastical artwork and embroidery in two separate exhibitions, one by the Paso Azul Brotherhood, and the other by the Paso Blanco Brotherhood. Both exhibits are free to the public and offer guided tours.
These stunning displays will be open to the public between Monday March 25 and Friday March 29.
The Paso Azul exhibition, held at the Church of San Francisco, features the throne of the Holy Virgin of Sorrows, adorned with new silk embroidery, as well as the image of the Virgin herself, which has been dressed in blue for the first time in many years.
Visitors can also view the processional images, biblical scenes and cavalry, as well as the Mantle, Reflection, Veiled Angel, Cloths of Saint John and Mary Magdalene, and the permanent collection of the Paso Azul museum, MASS.
Paso Blanco's exhibition, located in the monumental complex of Santo Domingo, showcases a host of spectacular images including Christ of Prayer in the Garden. The chapels and main altar are decorated with robes, banners and standard bearers, including the newly restored mantle and chariot of Valeria Maximilia, the mantle of the Consul and Legate of the Roman Infantr, and the shields of the Roman Infantry and the breastplate of the Horse of Respect.
The museum also features the muBBLa, an embroidery museum with more than 1,500 pieces hand-embroidered in silk and gold, including six pieces declared of Cultural Interest.
Tourism Councillor Santiago Parra encourages everyone to visit these exceptional exhibitions, which offer a unique opportunity to see the intricate gold and silk embroidery up close and in detail.
