ARCHIVED - March begins with lowest number of new Covid cases in Andalusia since January 2
610 new cases and 12 deaths since the last report was issued
The Andalusia region has reported 610 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday (1 March), the lowest figure seen in the region since 2 January, when 407 were registered, according to the Health and Families Ministry. There have only been two other days since January on which similarly low numbers have been reported; Monday 22 February with 650 and Tuesday 23 February with 634.
Seville was the province to report the most cases on Monday with 165, followed by Málaga with 115, Almería 102, Cádiz 71, Granada 52, Córdoba 51, Jaen 38 and Huelva 16.
The daily figures also notified 12 deaths, the lowest number since Monday 22 February when 11 were reported. Six of the deaths occurred in Málaga, 5 in Cádiz and 1 in Almería. Tuesday saw the highest death toll of last week with 100, while 93 people died on Wednesday, 58 on Thursday, 33 on Friday, 38 on Saturday and 13 on Sunday.
The 14-day accumulated incidence rate for the region is at 163 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, down from 196.5 per 100,000 on Friday, a significant decrease, but still way above the level of 50 cases which is the level at which the virus is considered to be under control.
There were 1,717 patients admitted to Andalusian hospitals with coronavirus on Monday (1 March), 25 fewer than on Sunday (28 February) and 621 fewer than a week beforehand. Of the total, 432 were in UCIs, 6 fewer than the previous day and 132 fewer than a week beforehand.
Altogether, there have been 476,107 confirmed coronavirus cases and 8,446 deaths in Andalusia since the start of the pandemic. 37,698 people have been hospitalized with the virus, and 3,720 of them were admitted to UCIs with more serious cases.
