ARCHIVED - Mazarron wants to party so badly, but the municipality says it knows how to wait
This week the region should be immersed in its annual "Carnaval" celebrations
Coronavirus has claimed 12 months of our lives and this week we should have all been out in the streets shaking our stuff and enjoying the annual "Carnaval" parades and parties which are normally such a welcome splash of colour 40 days before Easter.
But a year into the coronavirus pandemic, 2021 Carnaval activities have been cancelled everywhere, and although a brave effort has been made to upload videos and activities for children online to keep the carnival spirit going, all we can really do is wait for next year in the expectation that the peñas will have created even more spectacular costumes and dance routines than normal during the two year break between parades.
However, for the moment, the big worry for the authorities this week is that young people may still want to meet and hold illicit gatherings, undoing the advances made by the lockdowns of the last few weeks, something that in Mazarrón the Federation of Peñas is also keen to avoid, for which reason a video has been published reminding residents about the excitement of carnival week, but also reiterating the message that patience is necessary.
Councillor for Festivities, Miguel Ángel Peña, explained that “we have made the video to show the participation which makes our carnival great but also to demonstrate that Mazarrón is a responsible municipality and that its carnival knows how to wait without losing its spirit and you your dreams "
