Conservationists call for more protection at the regional park near Cabo de Palos
Salvemos Calblanque, a platform group for the protection of the regional park on the coastline of Cartagena to the west of Cabo de Palos, report that a 5-metre motor boat has run aground and been abandoned on the fossilized dunes which are the oldest in the whole of Europe, having been formed between 400,000 and 700,000 years ago.
The 5-metre launch can be seen to have run aground on in the park of Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas y Peña del Águila and the group report that it has been there at least since Monday while regional government and Town Hall staff study ways to remove it. In addition, they say that an impromptu campsite has been set up on the higher ground behind the dunes and are calling for measures to be taken to remove it from what is a protected area.
