Murcia climbs the ranks as one of Spain's favourite regions for overseas home buyers
Nearly 2 in 10 international buyers chose to call the Region of Murcia home at the end of 2025

Murcia is fast becoming one of the standout choices for foreign buyers looking to snap up a home in Spain, and the latest figures show the Region is holding its own alongside some of the country’s biggest coastal hotspots.
According to new data from Spanish property portal Fotocasa, the Mediterranean strip from Malaga right up to Girona was the most in-demand area for overseas buyers in the final quarter of 2025. Tucked firmly into that stretch is the Region of Murcia, which has quietly built a strong reputation with international house hunters.
Figures from Spain’s Property Registry reveal that foreign buyers accounted for 13.58% of all property sales nationwide. In the last three months of 2025 alone, around 23,700 homes were sold in Spain to foreign citizens.
When you break it down by autonomous community, the Balearic Islands came out on top with 29.46% of purchases made by international buyers. The Valencian Community followed with 27%, then the Canary Islands at 25.3%. The Region of Murcia was not far behind at 21.89%, placing it firmly among Spain’s leading destinations for overseas property investment. Catalonia recorded 15.05% and Andalucia 12.96%.
Looking even closer at provincial level, Alicante led the way with a striking 43.29% of homes bought by foreigners. Málaga saw 31.84%, Santa Cruz de Tenerife 29.56% and the Balearic Islands 29.46%. Murcia province itself reached 21.89%, putting it ahead of Las Palmas at 21.49%, Almería at 17.59% and Tarragona at 15.04%.
When it comes to who is buying, British nationals remain at the top of the list. Buyers from the United Kingdom accounted for 7.90% of all foreign purchases in the final quarter of 2025. They were followed by Germans at 6.50%, the Dutch at 5.98%, Romanians at 5.58%, Moroccans at 5.56%, French buyers at 5.24% and Italians at 4.97%.
