ARCHIVED - Noche de san Juan fiestas behind the outbreak in Lugo, Galicia
The regional health authority sees a clear link between the current outbreak which has caused the new lockdown and the fiestas due to the age of the new cases
The Galician comarca of A Mariña, in Lugo, which was locked down from midnight last night, has already seen cases rising from 99 to 119, two of them showing the respiratory difficulties associated with coronavirus.
The remainder of those affected have mild symptoms and are young people: 35 years old on average, "many of them around 20" according to the Galician Minister of Health, Jesús Vázquez Almuiña,.
He says that the outbreak, apparently, "is fundamentally linked to leisure," an important message for the rest of the young people who have recently filled the media with images of botellón drinking sessions and parties, in the false belief that covid does not go alongside these events. However, one of the factors that can now "help to control the outbreak," he says, is that the positives showing at the moment coincide with the incubation period since the San Juan fiestas took place, to which the health authority believes the majority of the new cases, particularly in the town of Burela, are related.
