Winter storms had stripped the sand off the beach
This is a lovely corner of the Mar Menor, particularly popular with windsurfing and foiling enthusiasts, many of whom use the La Manga camping and caravan site as a winter base for their sporting fun.
The caravan site leads straight down onto the beach in a corner of the Mar Menor which is ideal for windsurfing, both Lebeche and Levante winds giving a beautiful straight line across the waters from this corner, with a sandy and gently sloping entry point right next to the café and camping site.
It's a joy to watch windsurfers well into their seventies sailing with enthusiasm from this spot, partners taking advantage of the shade afforded by the palm trees to catch up with a good book and enjoy a break from listening to their other half talking incessantly about windsurfing, although this winter the beach has been a bit bare and scratchy following the winter storms which stripped the sand off the beach, leaving rough stones instead of squashy sand.
The council has been busy repairing the damage and has now delivered tons of sand to the beach, which has been laid and flattened ready for the spring influx of tourists.
Many thanks to Stan Wilby for sharing his photographs.
