ARCHIVED - Schoolchildren in San Cayetano present Mar Menor project in public
Environmental education begins at an early age in Torre Pacheco
The students at the primary school in San Cayetano, in the municipality of Torre Pacheco, welcomed the arrival of autumn on Friday 15th November at an event in the Plaza de la Iglesia which was also attended by various members of the local council.
All of those present congratulated Antonio Nicolás, the headmaster of the school, on a project which highlights the importance of showing classroom work in public, of bringing schoolwork into the public domain and of making children aware of environmental issues, of which the most topical in Torre Pacheco at present is of course the marine environment in the Mar Menor. For the arrival of autumn the children were encouraged to go out into the streets and the countryside, accompanied by adults, to collect and decorate objects which represent the season, and a large group of pupils and family members then took the initiative into the streets to tell stories, sing songs and show off their work.
One of the projects included in “Nuestra Arte por el Mar Menor” was a large mural containing leaves in the shape of fish, and those present at the event also enjoyed some of the food most typical of the time of year, such as chestnuts.
