ARCHIVED - Spain reports no deaths at all for Sunday and only 71 new cases
Although the Monday effect means that the data is not correct, there is no doubting the downward trend

The Spanish Ministry of Health has reported for the first time since the pandemic first broke out that there were no coronavirus deaths in Spain on Sunday, the total last night remaining at 27,127. This only brings the total of deaths to 35 in the last week.
Las instituciones y la población han dejado de ver la #desescalada como una carrera y han entendido que hay que ser prudentes.

The latest data confirm 71 new infections on Sunday, the second consecutive day below 100; of these, 18 have been reported by Madrid and 16 by Catalonia. "Today we have not received notification of any deaths for yesterday, which is a very, very positive evolution," said the director of the Center for Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies, Fernando Simón, in his daily press conference. He has warned, however, that this information could be incorrect due to what he called"some delay" at the weekend. He is referring to the “Monday effect” which has become the norm on a weekly basis, with data from the weekend not being registered until at least Tuesday as so few admin personnel are working at weekends. As the crisis has gone on and staff have become tired, the figures are lagging somewhat and sometimes the adjustment isn’t complete until the middle of the week.
A total of seven regions, in addition to Ceuta and Melilla, have not reported any fatalities in the last week and others such as Andalucia and Asturias have only announced one death.
The hospitals are certainly under less pressure and are coping better with their severe cases, but there are still new infections; in the last seven days 2,760 new positives have been registered, the vast majority also in Madrid and Catalonia, bringing the total up to 239,638 tested cases.
The Health Ministry is still undergoing a process of cleaning down its data, so the figures still can’t be taken as accurate.
Press reports today have indicated that there have been several deaths registered today in madrid and Cataluña which should be included in the next set mof data on Tuesday afternoon.
