Spain takes top spot in Lonely Planet autumn get-away guide
According to the prestigious travel magazine, Sevilla is the perfect destination for some post-summer sun
La Torre del Oro, Sevilla
Every year, Lonely Planet, the world's leading travel guide, releases its list of top destinations to visit during the autumn season. And this year, Sevilla has taken the top spot.
According to Lonely Planet, Sevilla is the perfect destination for an autumn getaway, offering a unique blend of history, culture and natural beauty that will leave visitors enchanted.
Autumn in Sevilla brings mild temperatures, ranging from 15-22°C, making it ideal for exploring the city's historic landmarks and enjoying the outdoors. The stifling heat has eased off, the experts note, but it’s still warm enough to stroll around in short sleeves.
The city's streets are lined with stunning architecture, including the iconic Plaza de España, the Torre del Oro and the breathtaking Cathedral and La Giralda. Each neighbourhood, from Triana to Santa Cruz, has its own unique character and charm just waiting to be discovered.
According to Lonely Planet, Sevilla is also the ideal base from which to explore other fascinating parts of Andalucía. Visitors can easily take a day trip to the nearby towns of Ronda, Cordoba or Granada and discover the rich history and culture of wider southern Spain.
But Sevilla is not the only Spanish destination on Lonely Planet's list and the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands takes the eighth spot.
El Teide, Tenerife
With its volcanic sandy beaches, lush forests and rich cultural heritage, Tenerife is an ideal destination for nature lovers and those seeking a unique autumn getaway.
Top 10 destinations for autumn
Sevilla and Tenerife are just two of the top destinations in Europe to visit during autumn. The full list from Lonely Planet includes:
- Sevilla, Spain
- Dodecanese, Greece
- Umbria, Italy
- Montenegro
- Copenhagen, Denmark
- Scottish Highlands
- Malta
- Tenerife, Spain
- Latvia
- Burgundy, France
