ARCHIVED - Sunday 15th March Abanilla: Free guided tour of the historic town centre
The historic centre of Abanilla retains a number of important historic buildings
Route name: VISITA GUIADA POR EL CASCO HISTÓRICO DE ABANILLA
The Region of Murcia offers a series of free guided walks and visits to places of historical and natural interest throughout the region during the coming year, encouraging residents and visitors to seek out some of the little known corners of this vast region.
All of the commentary is in SPANISH although some of the guides will speak some English, but it’s worth viewing these routes as a good reason to visit a new area and spend some time exploring, and maybe return to visit places of interest seen as part of this preliminary visit.Visits are offered in English from time to time.
Tourist offices are generally able to provide maps and leaflets with basic information in English.
Abanilla is not one of the best known municipalities in the region as it's off the beaten tourist track of the principal cities, and is a small municipality with a low population, but nonthless, is well worth a visit as it's full of character and charm.
This tour explores the centre of the old town itself, with the only public washing point still operational in all of the region, the Iglesia de San José, La Casa Cabrera, the Casa de la Encomienda, La Casa Pintada, and other locations of interest.
The route starts at 11.30am in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in Abanilla and is free of charge.(Click for map; Plaza del Ayuntamiento Abanilla)
