ARCHIVED - Sunday 16th February 2020 Cehegín artisan market celebrates carnival
This atmospheric artisan market is in the heart of north-west Murcia
The artisan market, El Mesoncico continues with the third market in its shortened cycle on Sunday 16th February in the historic Plaza del Castillo ( Mesoncico) at the top of town in the old quarter, creating an atmospheric setting with the best views in town.
This is always a popular artisan market as it offers a good range of traditional artisan products and is usually enlivened by the addition of music, food or demonstrations.
This year the cycle is being cut down to just four markets, although a major effort is being made them extra special, with additional free entertainment on offer alongside the artisan products.
The market comprises around 50 traditional artisans offering a complete range of items for sale, ranging from hand-made breads and pastries, to natural cosmetics, soaps, ceramics, paper and wood products, wines and leatherwork.
The market is open between 10am and 3pm and this February edition celebrates the carnival celebrations which traditionally take place 40 days before Easter Sunday and include a gathering of drumming groups, as well as mask making workshops for the kiddies and free chocolate drenched tortas fritas.
There are also other locations which can be visited during the morning, including Begastri, the archaeological museum or the church which dominates this plaza at the top of the town. Click for more information about places to visit in Cehegín and further what’s on information.
