ARCHIVED - Sunday 23rd February Totana: Artisan fair in the Sanctuary of Santa Eulalia
This is 7 kilometres above Totana on the edge of the Sierra Espuña
The sanctuary of Santa Eulalia, 7 km outside of the town of Totana, is holding an artisan fair on Sunday 23rd February 2020, in the atmospheric setting of the gardens of the sanctuary.
It's a beautiful location, and even though there are only a limited number of stalls it's worth making a trip up to this beautiful place even if just to take a picnic to the recreation area opposite the sanctuary and see the best views for miles around out across the flatlands of Totana below.
This isn't the biggest artesan fair in the region by any means, with around 20 registered regional artesans offering the best of local produce, hand made ceramics, local organic honey, jewellery and wood fired bread etc, but the setting alone is worth a trip out, the sanctuary itself a calming and spiritual place, nestling in the folds of the surrounding hills.
The craft fair is open between 10am and 2pm and entry is free.
Just across the road from the sanctuary is the Via Crucis, a sculptural walk which follows the stations of the cross. This can be walked or you can drive to the top if mobility prevents you from doing the walk, and if you haven't been before, is a lovely place to take the visitors or enjoy stunning views across the surrounding countryside.
It´s also a real pleasure to just sit up here beneath the trees with a good book and enjoy a picnic in the open air. Alternatively, from here, it's an easy drive on to Aledo and the forests of the Sierra Espuña.
The El Ángel and El Grifo recreational areas are also just metres from the sanctuary, making this a perfect excuse to pack a picnic and head into the Sierra Espuña regional park.NB: These are the only cooking points in the Sierra Espuña in which fires can be lit.
