Temperatures in freefall as rain returns: Murcia weekend weather forecast April 23-26

We’re in for a sea change with the Murcia weather this weekend, thanks to the arrival of a DANA storm that is affecting all of Spain

It will be noticeably cooler in the Region of Murcia from this Friday and Saturday as a powerful DANA storm or ‘Gota Fría’ sweeps the nation, bringing rainstorms, lightning and some strong winds to the Mediterranean coast, according to the forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Here’s what’s in store:

Thursday April 23

This Thursday, from around midday and lasting until 6am the next morning, the entire coastline of the Region of Murcia will be under a yellow alert for strong winds of 50-60kmh and high waves that could reach up to 2-3 metres. In these conditions, it is advised to take precaution when venturing near the sea, and not to enter the water.

Overall, Aemet notes that it will be “partly cloudy… with patches of high cloud” and “low cloud in the morning,” but mostly bright and with temperatures remaining stable at around 23-27ºC.

Friday April 24

On Friday, however, it really clouds over significantly, with showers likely in various parts all day long, including thunderstorms in Cartagena and the coast in the early part of the day and moving up to northern Murcia in the afternoon.

Temperatures, too, will take a nosedive, reaching maximums of 17-22ºC a good four or five degrees below what they were the day before.

Saturday April 25

The rain continues overnight on Friday and into Saturday morning, when there will be scattered, heavy showers until around midday, after which point it begins to clear up again. From that moment, temperatures will begin rise again, but will not hit the summery highs we had last weekend.

Sunday April 26

Minimum temperatures continue to fall on Sunday, meaning colder nights across the Region, while maximums stay around 20-23ºC, not much higher than they were on Friday. Still, thanks to the now sunny weather and clear skies with only some high cloud cover, it will feel pleasant enough.

Looking ahead to next week, Monday and Tuesday look set to continue to sunny conditions and temperatures are forecast to start rising once again, back up to highs of 29ºC by Wednesday, although that is also when the rain is forecast to return. Still, these medium-term forecasts are subject to significant changes, so keep an eye on the update weather predictions closer to the time.
