Until April 19 Exhibition of the accoutrements of the Virgen de los Dolores in Aguilas
The crowns, shawls and decorative accessories of the patron of Águilas on display at the seafront auditorium
The Virgen de los Dolores has been the official patron of the town of Águilas since 2nd October 1855 and this year marks the 25th anniversary of her being crowned a saint by the Catholic church, and one of the events commemorating this anniversary is an exhibition of her trousseau (her clothing and decorative adornments), such as crowns, jewellery, shawls, staffs and tunics.
Entitled “El Ajuar de la Patrona”, the exhibition can be visited at the the Auditorio Infanta Doña Elena until April 9, the day before Easter Sunday, on weekdays from 18.00 to 21.00 and at weekends from 11.00 to 13.30.
Throughout the year a series of events are commemorating the anniversary of 31st May 1963, which is when Pope John XXIII signed the canonical declaration by which the Virgin was named a saint, although in Águilas she had already been the official patron for 145 years by that point.

Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. It is a great summer favourite with Spanish holidaymakers, so always has a superb programme of concerts and activities throughout the summer, as well as the biggest carnival in the Region of Murcia, 40 days before Semana Santa (Easter.)
Throughout the year it also has a number of museums and historical attractions, a castle with fabulous views overlooking the bay and several other points of interest, all of which make it an good place to visit for days out. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.
The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
