A British holidaymaker is in a critical condition after falling from the balcony of a Marbella hotel in the early hours of Saturday morning.

 

The 25-year-old, who was staying in the Nueva Andalucía area with a group of friends, fell around 5.00am. According to witnesses, he was only wearing underwear at the time and appears to have fallen from a first-floor balcony, around seven to nine metres above the ground.

 

Emergency services were called straight away, and paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him by ambulance to the Costa del Sol Hospital. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was transferred the next day to the Regional Hospital in Málaga.

 

He remains in hospital with multiple fractures and internal injuries affecting his head, chest, pelvis and limbs. His condition has been described as critical, and his prognosis is currently “reserved”, according to sources close to the case.

 

It’s believed the group of friends had already gone to bed when the accident happened. They weren’t aware of what had occurred until police officers arrived at their room to inform them. Investigators have said there’s no indication the fall was the result of “balconing” - a dangerous practice involving jumping into hotel pools from balconies. Instead, it appears to have been a tragic accident.

 

Sadly, this isn’t the first serious fall in the area. In a separate incident not long ago, a British man died after falling from a seventh-floor balcony and landing on a Spanish man below. Both lost their lives.
