Jardín del Rey Don Pedro in Jumilla
The oldest park in Jumilla dates from the late 19th century
The Jardín del Rey Don Pedro is the oldest public park in Jumilla, and was designed in the late 19th century to host the annual fair in the town. Many of the decorative elements date from the 1940s, including tiles from Sevilla created by Ramos Rejano which depict characters and episodes from the story of Don Quijote and, perhaps a little oddly, the early films of Walt Disney.
The park is also home to a bronze statue of Don Roque Martínez, a doctor who was one of the leading lights in local society at the end of the 19th century, and a host of pleasant trees and plants including cedars, lilacs and fir trees. The park was connected to the old railway station of Jumilla by means of the Paseo Lorenzo Guardiola, and the station building still stands on the Avenida de la Libertad.
The park is alongside the tourist office and there is generally parking in this location.
A small kiosk is located on the edge of the park, selling drinks and snacks, offering the perfect location to stop off for a coffee if visitors are waiting for the tourist office to open..
