Along with many other municipalities in the Region of Murcia, Jumilla council has opted to take preventative measures to stem the spread of the coronavirus and has cancelled all events which could put the population at the risk of contagion.
Thsi includes all local sporting events, the guided tours programme offerd by the municipal tourism services, and any activities at which more than 50 people could come into contact with each other, such as the gathering of tamboristas or the dance scheduled to be held in one of the bodegas (full refunds are available in the Centro Cultural Roque Baños).
Centres for the elderly will also be temporarily closed, and from Monday all schools will close.
Municipal sports facilities will remain closed, the municipal weekly street market will not take place for the next two weeks, and the following will be closed; the castle, Teatro Vico, museums, municipal study rooms, libraries, Casa del Artesano, the Universidad Popular and Auditorio of the Conservatorio
At the moment the wine bodegas are remaining open and will continue to sell wine and offer individual tours as normal, although this situation may change within the next few days.
For queries relating to visits to Jumilla, call or email the local tourist information office.
The town hall reminds residents of the need to observe the recommendations of the Murcian Health Service:
- Wash hands frequently with either soap and water or a sanitiser gel
- Catch coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues – and throw the tissues away immediately after use before immediately washing your hands!
- If you don’t have a tissue, use your sleeve – and wash the item of clothing used at the next opportunity
- AVOID touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- AVOID close contact with people who are unwell
- Don´t panic!
