Last chance for June: Raquel Tours' Cartagena catamaran adventure is nearly fully booked
With just two dates remaining this month, now's the time to grab your spot on the Region of Murcia's favourite summer excursion
If you've been meaning to book one of Raquel Tours' catamaran trips around Cartagena Bay and haven't quite got round to it, this is your nudge. June 12 and 26 are the last two available dates this month and given how quickly the rest of the summer calendar has been filling up, these won't hang around.
For anyone who hasn't come across Raquel Tours before, they're a local operator based near the golf resorts of the Region of Murcia and their Cartagena Bay catamaran excursion has become one of the most popular day trips going for resort guests this summer. It's easy to see why.
The whole thing is organised for you, with comfortable return bus transfers picking you up directly from your resort and dropping you back again afterwards. There's no hiring a car, no navigating unfamiliar roads and no stress.
Resorts covered include Hacienda del Álamo, Corvera Golf Resort, Mar Menor Golf Resort, La Torre Golf Resort, Las Terrazas de la Torre, El Valle Golf Resort and Altaona Golf, with Cartagena itself around 45 to 60 minutes away, making the full day out around five hours door to door.
Once you're on the water, you've got three hours sailing around one of Spain's most historically rich harbour cities, a place with more than 2,000 years of history behind it. You'll glide past the port lighthouse and centuries-old military forts, complimentary glass of cava in hand, before the boat drops anchor for a full hour in the open sea, giving everyone time to swim, float or just stretch out and soak up the sun.The return leg is where it all gets a bit more relaxed, with music playing, cold drinks in hand and the Cartagena skyline drifting behind you. Every passenger gets a complimentary snack pack on board and it's worth hanging onto the packaging because each one has a number inside that goes into an on-board raffle with prizes up for grabs.
Extra drinks and snacks are available to buy at reasonable prices too, and if you'd like to round the day off properly, you can add on lunch or dinner at one of the seafront restaurants in Cartagena's old town after docking. Fresh fish, tapas and paella are all on the menu, and it's a lovely way to make the most of being in such a beautiful city.
Prices are €49 per person and €39 for children up to 12, with transfers and the catamaran excursion including insurance all covered in that. Drinks and meals are extras. The minimum group size is 10, so it works brilliantly for families, groups of friends or even a few couples getting together.
One thing that really makes Raquel Tours stand out is the range of languages their guides work in. English, Dutch, Flemish, German, French, Italian and Spanish are all covered, which makes a real difference for the mixed nationality crowds you tend to find on the Murcia resorts. Everyone gets the full experience in their own language, and that's not something every operator can offer.
After June, trips run every Friday throughout July and August, with further dates in September and Fridays in October subject to weather. But if June works for you, it really is now or never.
