Turkish gang member killed in broad daylight shooting in Torrevieja
The murder was committed at a busy intersection in central Torrevieja
A man has died after being shot at the intersection of Rambla Juan Mateo and Calle Pedro Lorca in central Torrevieja. The shooting took place on Sunday afternoon, August 3 in broad daylight, much to the shock of locals and tourists.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim was with a partner and a child when he was attacked. After opening fire, the suspects reportedly fled on foot along Pedro Lorca toward Plaza de Oriente. Based on descriptions from several witnesses, both the Guardia Civil and Local Police launched a joint search operation.
Shortly afterwards, the suspects were seen getting into a French-registered car and attempting to leave the city. Thanks to quick coordination between law enforcement units, the vehicle was spotted by officers stationed for the Brilla Torrevieja concert on Avenida Delfina Viudes. There were three men inside the car.
When the suspects ignored police orders to stop, a pursuit began through several streets. The chase ended on the CV 905 near the La Hoya roundabout, where Guardia Civil officers managed to intercept the driver.
The other two passengers ran from the scene but were tracked down and arrested by Local Police near the El Limonar residential area, close to the BMW dealership.
Emergency services were dispatched immediately after the shooting. A SAMU unit arrived within minutes and began treating the victim at the scene. Paramedics performed CPR, but despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as Caner Koçer, believed to be a senior figure in the Daltons, a Turkish organised crime group. Early investigations suggest he was targeted by members of a rival gang known as the Caspers.
Both groups have reportedly been active in recent weeks along the Mediterranean coast and some members are thought to have been involved in other violent incidents in the province of Málaga.
